The Day I Die

Noted Nest

By Poorvi

What happens when I'm no longer here?

Will the world move on and forget I was near?

Will the sun still rise and seasons flow,

While my name fades to a whisper no one will know?

Will the poems I wrote be lost in the haze,

Or will they echo in someone's quiet days?

Will the moments we lived feel sweet to recall,

Or will they forget I was ever here at all?

A hundred years from now, no one will know,

The dreams I held or the battles I fought.

The paths I walked or the things I touched,

And I will be yet another forgotten page in history.

New faces will bloom where we once stood,

Living their lives, as we once would.

The world will continue just as it always has,

And I will be nothing more than a shadow in its past.

And yet,

I want to remain, to exist, to endlessly try-

For I'm terrified of the day I die.
