The Butterfly Mother

By Susmita Chatterjee Alias Aloakash

Always in rise

The butterfly mother contemplates on colours

She has seen human children pinning butterflies on sky boards

She has seen how hope has been darkened in the name of education

She has seen how ‘the Inquisition’ sought to implant beliefs

A highly inquisitive mind

That she is

She has been a larrikin

Since the day she came

Out of her cocoon

Yet, she is a congenial person

As she has learnt how bitterness

Can be turned into buoyancy of colours

She teaches her larvae to be chancy

But not champing at the bit

and she cautions her butterfly kids

Against the chameleons

Lest, the butterflies lose faith

on the truth of their own colours

In this machine driven technocrat world

If you are wearied and worried about cyber punks

offer your libation to her

She will show you how to live your true colours

by staying grounded in your flight

And we will get the real taste of colours
