Pornography, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary, is "printed or visual material containing explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement." The effects of pornography on the human mind and society, whether good or bad, are debatable. Many, after extensive research and experimentation, believe that pornography is a catalyst in rape culture, promoting unrealistic bodies and sexual fantasies and the increase in violent crimes, while others believe that it helps people explore their sexual identities and desires.
In the article 'Aggression and Violent Behaviour' by Furguson and Hartley, they argued that pornography is not responsible for sexual aggression and it's the pressure groups exaggerating the adverse effects. It is arguable since in the book 'The Age of Perversion' by Danielle Knafo, it is mentioned that consuming porn will increase the number of potential predators and their chances of committing the crime. Exposure to sexually explicit content at a young age, especially in males, can be very damaging to the child and those around him.
Not everybody is willing to go through long research papers and journals on this topic which makes it difficult to prove the point mentioned in the paragraph above....or is it? Notorious serial killers and rapists like the Toy-Box Killer, the Killer Clown, Ted Bundy, Andrei Chikatilo, Edmund Kemper are some names that have admitted to their crimes being heavily influenced by them being exposed to or having possession of pornography and/or child pornography.
Revenge porn also plays a weighty role in victims giving in to the desires of their abusers.
Sex education can help educate people about consent, boundaries during sex, and respecting the partner(s) bodies, which pornography fails as it is a money-making industry that does not care about objectification or limits of sexual fantasies.
