"Oh, dear lord, I am so grateful for this charming sunset. It seems like it's shaking its bye-bye hands with a winsome smile promising us that it’ll meet us again tomorrow morning with its divine sunrays of enormous hope!"In her mind, Mehek believed in and was thankful for every incredible thing that nature has offered to the world. Unlike many people, she firmly believed that magic exists in everything, every place, every person, and every event around her. Though she couldn't be certain, somewhere in her heart, she deeply felt that nature has something to communicate with us, like a beautiful message, to show something sublime or glorious, or to share some out-of-this-world feelings with us. Just because we have confined ourselves in concrete houses and made ourselves busy with routine chores, we cannot hear what the universe wants to convey to us. We must silence the chaos in our hearts just for a little while, and listen!
"In sunlight's embrace, we dance,
Raindrops fall in a gentle trance.
Nature's touch, a healing band,
Heals our wounds, where we stand.
Above, the sky with moon and star,
Mornings greet us from afar.
Nature teaches, in her quiet part,
Living is giving, at its heart.”
As the sun dipped below the horizon, in her mind, Mehek sang a silent goodbye to the setting sun."So, Mehek and Kumar, ready for the bedtime story?" Keshav Kaka asked with a smile. Mehek and Kumar eagerly nodded, their faces lighting up at the sound of his voice. For them, Keshav Kaka's stories were the highlight of their day, the one bright spot in their otherwise difficult lives. These stories weren't just entertainment; they were their lifeline, offering a glimmer of hope in their darkest moments. Mehek and Kumar knew that only a miracle, a magical twist of fate could bring them out of their vale of tears. With a collection of fictional books, Keshav Kaka transported them to worlds far away from their troubles, providing a temporary escape. And after each story, they bowed their heads in prayer, seeking solace in the quiet reassurance of faith.
Keshav Kaka said, "Come on kids, let's hold each other's hands and pray:"We are grateful for all your blessings. Please stay with us always. We believe that everything will be fine one day. You will make us happier. We have faith in you, dear Lord."!
Mehek kissed the photo of her parents before peacefully closing her beautiful, big eyes.'Mehek,' a name perfectly suited to her essence, was an 18-year-old girl who exuded the sweet fragrance of her love and kindness. Her unwavering determination to live the life of her dreams was immense. An orphan, she lived with her Chacha-Chachi, Vinay Singh, and Reena Singh; having lost her parents, Varad Singh and Avni Singh, when she was just a toddler. She carried the silence of a mute girl since birth, yet her spirit spoke volumes.Kumar, the beloved pet doggy, was Mehek's closest companion. She discovered him in the park at the tender age of 9 and from that moment on, they were inseparable. Kumar had an uncanny ability to understand and console Mehek in her moments of sorrow. This deep connection led Mehek to believe that every creature on earth is a creation of the same universal power, capable of experiencing similar emotions. To her, the purpose of every being is to share the profound gifts of love, care, and understanding. Through Kumar, Mehek learned the art of loving unconditionally, without expecting anything in return, recognizing that love was the most valuable gift she could offer to every creature on earth. In return, Kumar reciprocated this love unconditionally. He was a delightful, playful, and compassionate companion who stood by Mehek's side day and night, faithfully accompanying her wherever she went.
One sunny afternoon, Mehek was lying in bed with a storybook. Even though she was physically there, her mind and heart were diving deep into the tale. Her innocent and curious face reflected all her emotions, mirroring her heart. With each scene, her expressions changed, matching the story’s twists and turns as if she were living the story herself. As the plot unfolded, she became increasingly lost in the narrative, imagining herself as the main character. It was as if she was swimming in the story's world, fully involved in every moment. When the bunny in the book faced danger, Mehek felt just like Laila, determined to save him!
“As Laila walked deep inside the wild and desperate woods, she was screaming bloody murder for her bunny, HOPPYYY. But she couldn't find him. As she approached the densest part of the forest, she saw a ferocious, ravening lion roaring behind a big tree. She guessed that Hoppy must have become the lion's prey. She wished this guess would be a lie, but the fierce forest was screaming that this was a dangerous place where anything could happen to anyone.
Laila decided to escape her bunny without caring for her life. She slowly moved towards the lion, bravely but cautiously. When she was just 7 feet away from the lion, it turned back. Laila's eyes stayed wide open staring at the lion. She was scared to death, and it made her blood run cold throughout her body. The Lion started taking his majestic steps towards Laila, and as Laila was just about to scream, she heard a sound calling……”
MEHEK….Reena Chachi called her from downstairs.
Mehek thought for a while, “If I go downstairs what will happen to my Hoppy? Would the hungry Lion kill and eat it? I have to save my Hoppy, but I am scared to death seeing the Lion. But wait, I am not Laila, so why am I worried about saving the Bunny? Whew! Laila will save Hoppy, I just have to take myself out of this book for a while and just go downstairs!
Mehek went downstairs just to find Uncle Sharma sitting on the sofa having tea with Vinay Chacha and Reena Chachi. Mehek greeted Uncle Sharma touching his feet. With her facial expressions, she expressed all her feelings of respect and gratitude towards Uncle Sharma.
"Hey Mehek, here are your favourite chocolates my little girl. You have turned 18 now, but you are still my tiny, chubby, sweet little Mehek❤️It seems as if looking at the reflection of Avni Bhabhi while seeing you dear. The same kindness and selflessness are displayed through your eyes. Come and sit my dear." He insisted. Every time someone said that she resembled her mother, Mehek felt a mix of joy and fulfilment. Sitting beside Uncle Sharma, his words ignited hope in her heart, filling her with sparkling happiness and dangling joys. He praised her qualities, comparing them to her parents, and Mehek nodded in agreement, embracing the positivity. After half an hour, Uncle Sharma hurriedly bid his farewell, saying "Goodbye dear" as Mehek waved back with a smile.
Mr. Devendra Sharma, also known as Uncle Sharma, was the legal and financial advisor of the Singh family. He was a humble and highly intelligent person who always admired the Singhs and genuinely cared for Mehek. His monthly visits brought happiness to Mehek, at least for the few hours of his presence.
That whole day, Mehek had a bright shining smile on her face.
" Hey mom-dad, your reflection I amHey mom-dad, you’re sunshine I amThank you for choosing me as your daughter......"🎵"Huh... someone seems very happy today". Chachi interrupted Mehek while she was singing in her mind.
"Let me guess the reason. Is it because Mr. Sharma said that you are totally like your mother? Yeah, of course, she too was a weirdo like you. And let me tell you, she was a drama queen, always wearing a lie mask to show how nice a person she was. But let me tell you, she was nothing more than a greedy, brainless woman. Now could you please wash those dishes quickly? And listen, I don't want that weird smile on your face again while doing the house chores".
Mrs. Singh stormed out of the kitchen after scolding Mehek.
Mehek's Vinay Chacha and Reena Chachi were a childless couple. Despite their wealth and opulent lifestyle in the grand ancestral bungalow that rightfully belonged to Mehek's parents, they were known for their cunning nature, mean demeanour, and short temper. While Mr. Singh held a modest job at a courier company, they preferred laziness over hard work. Unbeknownst to Uncle Sharma, they treated Mehek poorly. Mehek, having completed high school, found solace in books, filling her days with enchanting tales and her nights with magical dreams.
That night, after enduring Chachi's harsh words, Mehek drifted off to sleep, tears staining her cheeks as she clutched a photo of her parents close to her heart. Beside her, Kumar, her faithful companion, gently patted her head, offering comfort in his own silent way. Even in her slumber, Mehek found solace in prayer and whispered a plea to the Universe:
“Dear universe,
You are merciful, extend your hand to me,
Are you trying to convey a message? I cannot hear you!
Is your existence a mere illusion, or a truth to behold?
I seek a pearl in this ocean of sorrows,
In the vibrant garden, I stand as a lone black rose.
Do you wish to paint my life with hues anew?
Is there a joyful chapter, or just a single happy page in my life?”
As the clock struck midnight, she drifted into a deep slumber and found herself in a strangely captivating dream. She often had dreams that were related to the books she used to read or to the stories Keshav Kaka used to tell. But this dream was something out of the world that she had never imagined. But it felt somewhat revitalizing to her. In her dream, she saw:
A girl, somewhat similar to Mehek’s age possessed the ability to soar through the skies with her wings in a city. The city slightly resembled the city where Mehek lived. In fact, it resembled a lot with slight, few differences. Everybody on the street called the girl Dua. Dua’s face resembled Mehek’s face, with somewhat peculiar features. Her steps painted confidence on the pavement. Each movement exuded an aura of positivity. Her warm smile adorned her face as she bestowed greetings upon all who crossed her path. A lady with a black gown, a milkman, a guy with a briefcase in his hand, a dog, a cow, and a walking bird on the road. Wait! What? The city was filled with flying inhabitants, except for a charming yellow bird that gracefully walked the streets. Dua bore a striking resemblance to her, yet everything in this extraordinary world held an enchanting and peculiar quality. Dua went flying to her house. This house too resembled Mehek’s luxurious and deluxe bungalow but the setup inside the house had an eccentric charm to it.
She saw Vinay Chacha and Reena Chachi too, in her dream. They were too, FLYING!
When Dua returned home FLYING, Reena Chachi came with a glass of water in her hands. Dua and Chachi conversed for a while and then Vinay Chacha came FLYING from somewhere and sat with Chachi and Dua. And then came Kumar FLYING and barking from upstairs. Together they shared a joyous moment, culminating in a spontaneous outburst of song.
“Life is a joyous symphony,
A melodious song,
Sing with your family, and sing along!
Life is an endless sea,
With waves of joy and grief,
Embrace and cherish your family, and find relief!
In rain or snow's gentle flow,
Together we'll bloom and together we'll grow!”
Dua too seemed very happy and sang along with Chacha and Chachi. While in the dream, Mehek felt as if she was herself singing along with her Chacha and Chachi. This extraordinary dream unveiled all that Mehek longed for. When she woke up, for the next 24 hours, she pondered over the dream, considering it a figment of her imagination. She thought that this was something that would never come true. Expecting to make this dream a reality is like expecting the moon to always be full or mangoes to be an all-season fruit! These are literally, impossible things. She believed in the universe though! She believed that there’s sure, a transcendental power that the universe has to make impossible things make happen. In the tapestry of her life, hope and belief were the only threads she wielded, weaving them together each day to navigate the journey ahead.
The Prince exclaimed, "It was you all along! Of course, it was you! This is more right than I ever could have imagined! Please, will you marry me?"
The Little Mermaid, with all the happiness in her heart, could barely manage to speak. She whispered “Yes!” with a warm smile. And a wedding on board the ship took place after all.
Keshav Kaka finished narrating “The Little Mermaid Story” from the Fairy-Tales book to Mehek and Kumar. Fairy tales held a special place in Mehek's heart. She adored the way each princess overcame daunting obstacles to find her prince charming in the end. Fairy tales weave together the enchanting essence of love and magic, the very elements Mehek yearned for the most!
That night, once again she saw the same dream. She saw Dua’s Chacha-Chachi attending Dua’s graduation ceremony at her college. They seemed very happy and clicked photos, not from a camera but from a device that somewhat looked like a radio or maybe a Bluetooth speaker. Dua didn't toss her graduation cap in the air. Instead, she twirled and flew up towards the sky like a Tinkerbell. As she gracefully descended, her radiant smile beaming, Chacha-Chachi and her friends proudly applauded her. Kumar also danced cheerfully on his hind legs.
In the evening, Chachi hosted a dinner party for Dua’s friends and other acquaintances. Uncle Sharma had also come over. Everybody at the dinner table was praising Dua’s achievement, adding to the jubilation of Chach-Chachi and Dua. The dinner had some weird dishes unknown to the normal world. A stuffed roll usually dipped in chutneys or sauces was dipped in white milk-like liquid. Pizzas had toppings of fruits and mint leaves. Instead of using a fork and knife, they used a pin to lift the food, as the food seemed comparatively miniature. Keshav Kaka came flying to serve the dinner. Oh, so here was Keshav Kaka! He had made his special appearance now in the dream! Unbeknownst to her, Mehek smiled in her sleep, as she loved Keshav Kaka wholeheartedly, embracing his presence in her subconscious realm.
Post dinner, while Dua and Kumar were going to fly upstairs to see her gifts, Uncle Sharma called her and asked her to sit on the thing that looked less like a sofa and more like a hopper ball! Dua obeyed Uncle Sharma and as she sat on that hopper ball, it swiftly squished inside giving it the shape of a half-moon that provided a comfy sitting chair for her. Now this was unconventional yet splendid! Kumar too, sat beside her.
“Yes, Uncle, what happened”? Dua asked humbly
“Me and Chacha-Chachi are going to gift you something today!” Uncle Sharma said with a big smile on his face.
“One more gift? Today seems to be a day of endless gifts!” Dua exclaimed with utmost exaltation.
“Yes, but this gift is different my dear. This gift will bring you happiness along with a lifetime of responsibilities. This gift will make all your dreams come true!” Uncle Sharma spoke as if he were about to reveal something monumental.
“Dreams? Responsibilities? I am getting mixed feelings of fear and excitement now! Please tell me what’s the gift?” Dua got more curious.
“Dear Dua, do you know to whom this luxurious bungalow belongs?” Uncle Sharma asked
“Chacha-Chachi.” Dua said.
“No Dua, it belongs to you.” Uncle Sharma explained.
“Me?” Dua was surprised.
“Yes, Dua. Your father showed great foresight by drafting his will soon after your birth, ensuring a fair distribution of his property between you and your Chacha-Chachi. This house is in your name, Dua. Additionally, you own 40% of your father’s business, and your mother’s jewellery also belongs to you.” Uncle Sharma took a pause and then raised his brows at Dua’s surprised face.
“Welcome to Family business Dua! You always wanted to have your own business, right? Now that you have graduated, we believe you are capable of working for our company.” Chacha exclaimed.
Dua paused for a moment, pondered, and then mustered the courage to speak.
“I am grateful for the gifts you all have offered to me. I am shaken to the core to have people like you around me who love me so much. However, I can’t accept these gifts. I wish to have my own business, but it must be self-made. I don’t want anything that’s inherited. I want to work hard and build up my own business.”
As Dua finished speaking, a tender ray of dawn tiptoed through the curtains, alighting upon her eyes, rousing Mehek from the depth of slumber, gently unravelling the veils of dreams to return her reality.
Mehek woke up from her slumber, confused by a dream that lingered like morning mist. While brushing her teeth, taking a bath, and getting dressed, the dream lingered in her thoughts. She couldn't understand why she had dreamt about the same people for two nights in a row. Their lives seemed eerily similar to hers, with one key difference: Dua's life, a tapestry woven with threads of love and joy, in contrast to Mehek's own, where sorrow seemed an ever-present companion. She decided to confide in Keshav Kaka about her confusion, hoping for an insight to untangle the knots of her restless mind.
Mehek rushed into the kitchen. With animated hand gestures, she eagerly inquired of Keshav Kaka about the owner of the house, her eyes filled with curiosity. But then, their attention was suddenly drawn toward a familiar voice that echoed from the living room.
-"Maasi, here I am to live and have fun for the next one week with you".-"Jiya, my dear, the apple of my eye! But why just a week? Stay a bit for more days, dear".-"Nah Maasi, I have more happening plans for this summer".-"It's ok baby, so, for this one week I'll feed you all your favourite cuisines. You remember how you would always ask for one more bowl of halwa when you were a kid. Oh, my little Jiya! Wanna have a taste of it again"?-"Nah Maasi, I am not a kid, I have grown up now. No halwa and all haan, please. Try some soups or salads, I would have them. And please make it fast coz I am VERY hungry.-"Ah...Ok, I'll try, anything for you my baccha"
Chachi's niece used to visit the Singhs every summer. She was wealthy, but also foolish and narcissistic. Whenever she visited, she would intentionally cause trouble for Mehek, Kumar, and Keshav Kaka for no reason. Both she and her Chachi seemed to derive demonic pleasure from this behavior. It seemed that this time, she had similar intentions.
"Kumar, I know you don't like Jiya, but you have to stop barking like this, this is gonna do nothing but just add to your problems". Keshav Kaka explained. Kumar, Mehek, and Keshav Kaka, all three got worried after they recognized Jiya's one-week stay as they knew that this was going to raise their difficulties. The other day, Jiya was getting ready to go shopping with her Maasi. She had worn her favourite pink satin top and black skirt. She was getting her makeup done in front of the dressing table when Mehek knocked on her door with a tray of coffee in her hands.
"Come in", answered Jiya.
Mehek gave a genial smile to Jiya. Jiya disgracefully ignored her. She didn't find it important even to notice Mehek's presence in the room. Mehek went in front of her and offered her coffee, but Jiya's hand got hit by the cup, and all the coffee spilled on her dress."Oh dear God...what did you just do? Have you lost all your senses? You were so jealous of my beautiful dress that you ruined it. Maaaaaasi" She screamed hysterically.
Mr. and Mrs. Singh, Kumar, and Keshav Kaka came running toward Jiya's room. Jiya told her Maasi and Chacha what had happened, exaggerating every bit. She expressed her desire to leave the house and hastily started packing. Mrs. Singh tried to calm her down, but Jiya was determined to leave. As she stormed out of the Singh's house, she grabbed a book from the living room bookshelf and angrily threw it at Mehek.
"Remove these people Maasi, they are just of no use to your house". She said and left the house.Throughout the entire day, she endured a relentless barrage of scolding, taunting, and cursing from the Singhs. Overwhelmed, she came back to her room. Unbeknownst to her, tears streamed down her cheeks as she gazed at the book Jiya had thrown at her. The title, "Your Life In a Parallel Universe" left her pondering its meaning.
She opened the book and was left in a jaw-dropping awe. There were a few pictures of people in the book that closely resembled the faces of the people in her dream. They were the same people, in the same house, with the same strange furniture setting. Seeing the uncanny resemblance of the book to her dream, she pinched her hand to remind herself that she wasn’t dreaming again.
She was initially taken aback, but then she thought that perhaps the universe was trying to communicate something to her through this book.
It is said that if you see the same dream repeatedly, there’s something about that dream you need to consider. She realized that she had seen the dream twice, and now the same dream was depicted in this book. This couldn't be a mere coincidence. There must be something extraordinary about it!
Her mind was filled with numerous questions. To find answers, she closed her eyes, placed her hands on her heart, and attempted to communicate with the universe.
“Oh Universe, share your secrets, let them flow,
In whispers gentle, where mysteries grow.
Questions wander, seeking their place,
Will clarity come with morning's grace?
I ask for truth, to clear my mind's maze,
In dreams and books, where connections blaze.
Alone, it's tough, like a far-off stream,
Guide me through this intricate scheme!
Help me decode this grand puzzle's tale,
Together, let's unravel its veil!!”
Kumar quietly sat down next to Mehek as Mehek prayed, lost in the grip of a dilemma. Without her noticing, he gently took her hands in his. He knew she was feeling sad and lost, and he simply wanted to comfort her and show her that he was there for her through both the good and bad times.
Amidst Mehek’s prayers, suddenly she noticed a divine light shone from the book which illuminated her face. She opened her eyes quickly to see what it was, but the light was so bright that she couldn't keep her eyes open. Then a voice emerged from the light and asked her, "Do you want your mysteries to be solved?"
Kumar and Mehek looked at each other, surprised. Mehek nodded her head in agreement.
Then, the voice queried, "Do you wish to mend your strife?" Mehek hesitated, but eventually agreed, encouraged by Kumar's presence and the voice's persistence.
"I'll take you on a magical trip.! Do both of you believe in MAGIC?" the voice inquired.
Mehek and Kumar both smiled at the question and nodded, willing to embrace the magic promised by the mysterious voice.
"Then both of you just hold each other’s hands tightly and I’ll take you to a new magical world. I repeat, hold your hands tightly, or else you both could get lost."
Mehek was now in a dilemma about whether to believe the voice from the book. But a tiny little voice in her heart whispered that this was something the universe was willing to convey to her. Mehek's heart stirred as she glanced at her parents' photo, feeling their silent encouragement as she saw them winking at her.
With newfound resolve, she decided to trust the voice and embark on the unknown journey. Kumar understood her silent plea and held her hand reassuringly as they faced the light together, prepared for whatever lay ahead. Suddenly, the beam of light forcefully pulled both of them towards the book.
With shouts of excitement, Mehek and Kumar soared into the book, riding on the beam of light, and then found themselves landing on a fascinating rainbow in the sky. Sliding down the rainbow as if they were in a park, they bounced onto a fluffy, white cloud, feeling its coziness like a soft pillow beneath them. Surrounded by the endless expanse of blue sky, they marvelled at the vivid rainbow stretching before them. Eager to slide back on the rainbow, they hopped onto another cloud, one that was a bit above the previous one to reach the rainbow. But this one turned out to be bouncy rather than fluffy. Like a jumping jack they bounced back and forth and with each bounce, they soared higher and higher until they found themselves on the rings of Saturn. The rings were spinning around like they were on a thrilling roller coaster ride, but as the speed increased, they lost their balance and were flung onto the moon, where they floated weightlessly in the lower gravity. Laughing with joy, they held onto each other tightly, only to be startled by a shooting star hurtling towards them. Closing their eyes in fear, they were whisked away along with the shooting star on an unknown adventure, passing by strange objects at lightning speed until they finally landed on a planet that seemed oddly familiar—like the place Mehek had seen in her dreams and read about in the book titled "Your Life in a Parallel Universe"!
This world seemed like a Wonderland to Mehek and Kumar!
It was the same city that Mehek saw in her dreams: a bizarre and crazy city with people and animals flying instead of walking. However, the birds were very disciplined pedestrians, just like Mehek and Kumar.
As Mehek walked into the city, everyone looked at her curiously. And then all of a sudden, a huge Peacock grabbed Mehek and Kumar's hands and took them to a park. The Peacock exclaimed, "Welcome to the park of pedestrians!"
Mehek thought to herself how amazing this talking bird looked! She and Kumar headed inside the park. The Peacock asked Mehek, "How come you both walk like us? Also, you both seem to look a bit weird. Are you both from some different planet?"
Mehek made a slight glance at Kumar and tried to explain to the Peacock with her actions that she was a mute girl. The Peacock understood her.
Then he asked, "Would you both like to try flying?" Mehek and Kumar excitedly nodded yes!
The Peacock took both of them to a place in the park where there was a slingshot tied to a tree. One bird held its back to the slingshot and the other birds pulled it back. The bird then soared high up in the sky, and a few flying dogs and cats caught them and brought them back to the ground. This was a continuous game going on, giving every bird a chance to soar high. This seemed like a fun yet scary game to Mehek and Kumar. Mehek realized that this was a game that she had once seen Vinay Chacha playing on his phone. She thought to herself, this game is fun in an imaginary game, but in the real world, it was certainly very scary. What if nobody caught the bird up in the sky and it fell to the ground? It could get hurt.
"Would you both like to soar in the sky with the help of these slingshots?" The Peacock asked.
Mehek's eyes widened, her brows shooting up in fear as she glanced at Kumar, who mirrored her apprehension. Both hesitated, fearing the daunting stunt they were asked to attempt. They both doubted that if no one caught them in the vast expanse of the sky, they’d fall.
Sensing their uncertainty, the Peacock posed a question, “Are you both scared? Don’t you believe in the animals flying above?”
Confused, little Mehek and Kumar exchanged bewildered glances with a lack of answer. Grappling with their doubts and fears, they were unsure of how to respond.
The Peacock laughed and said, “Hey strangers, I have met you today for the first time in my life, but even then, I grabbed your hand to include you both among us. You seemed to look weird for this place, but even then, I extended my trust, sensing you both were newcomers deserving of joy in our midst! Trust is the cornerstone; without it, life loses its lustre. For in trust lies a potent magic, eclipsing the pain of betrayal. So, my friend, believe, and join us to have fun without hesitation, for in trust, there is enchantment!”
Mehek and Kumar's eyes shined with new courage as they gave their consent to the Peacock to soar in the sky. The Peacock then told the other birds to include Mehek and Kumar in their game. They were placed on the slingshot, pulled back by the other birds, and then soared high up in the sky. Initially, they laughed and felt happy, but soon realized no one in the sky could catch them. In a fraction of a second, gravity pulled them down, shouting and yelling as they fell onto the top of a red car. The car resembled the one Vinay Chacha rode to his office, but it had a soft bed on top. Hence, Mehek and Kumar fell on the car without making any noise. The car started and hurried towards its destination as soon as they both landed upon it.
Mehek and Kumar had no clue where the car was heading. They just wished that they wouldn’t stumble into a brand-new problem in this strange, unfamiliar place. The car stopped in front of a house that Mehek had seen in her dreams. This was like joining the anecdotes of her dreams. As the car stopped, Mehek and Kumar tried to hide from the people who came out of the car so that they wouldn’t get noticed. But their attempt failed. The lady who first got out of the car spotted that someone was sitting upon the car and screamed with shock. Then, a young girl came out of the car. It was Dua. Mehek was surprised as well as happy looking at Dua and the lady whose face resembled her Reena Chachi. That lady was Dua’s Chachi. Dua didn’t get scared, instead, she asked Mehek and Kumar to come slowly down. Dua was happy looking at Mehek and Kumar. Dua’s Chachi asked Dua whether she knew Mehek and Kumar. She was completely flabbergasted looking at the uncanny resemblance of Mehek and Kumar with Dua and Dua’s pet doggy Ronnie. Yet, she was a bit scared looking at the peculiar features of Mehek and Kumar.
“Chachi, she is Mehek and he is Kumar”, Dua introduced cheerfully.
Mehek and Kumar wondered how Dua knew their names!
“Are they your friends Dua? Haven’t seen them ever before. Anyways, welcome to our house Mehek and Kumar.” Dua’s Chachi’s gesture was very sweet towards Mehek and Kumar.
“Yes, they are my friends. And I am taking them straight away to my room Chachi.” Dua dragged Mehek and Kumar. Dua soared upstairs while Mehek and Kumar climbed the stairs. Dua’s Chachi was bewildered by these strangers from another world.
“Hi Mehek, this is my doggy, Ronnie!” Dua introduced Ronnie her pet to Mehek and Kumar. Kumar and Ronnie shook their tails happily meeting each other.
“You both might be wondering, how come I know your names! Right? Dua interrogated.
“I've often seen both of you in my dreams. Even though I didn't know who you were, I frequently saw both of you, Chacha-Chachi, and our house in my dreams. Initially, I was surprised to see myself, my family, and my house in the dream, because the dream seemed to be very unusual. Also, the world around us was very strange. I was confused about this dream. I thought of sharing this with someone, but I thought it wasn’t something to give so much importance to. Then, one day, while buying some books from the bookstore, I stumbled upon a book titled "Your Life in a Parallel Universe"! This title caught my attention. Although I hadn't planned to buy the book, I felt that my intuition was telling me to open and read it. Upon opening it, I saw the same characters, the same world, and the same creatures that I had seen in my dreams. Strange, right? Oh, and by the way, are you mute?” Dua asked.
Mehek nodded yes.
“Mehek, give your hands into my hands”, Dua said warmly.
Mehek held Dua’s hands. She felt some warmth as well as a sense of trust when she gave her hands to Dua.
“Mehek, do you believe in the Magic of the Universe?”
As she heard the question, Mehek's eyes sparkled with radiance, and a winsome smile blossomed on her face, casting a glow as bright as sunshine. She nodded yes!
“Mehek, in our shared belief in the vast Universe, let’s grasp each other's hands firmly. I sense we've crossed paths to support one another. Despite differing circumstances, we're akin, surrounded by similar faces, just belonging to different Universes. Perhaps we can mend the gaps in each other's lives. You possess what I lack, and vice versa. Let's unite, offer silent prayers to the Universe, and allow me to share my gift of communication with you.”
Dua and Mehek clasped hands tightly, shutting out the world around them. With an unwavering belief in the Universe's magic, they felt destined to have met. Dua prayed earnestly to share her gift of communication with Mehek, and Mehek too, accepted it without hesitation. Both poured their hearts into making this manifestation a reality. For Mehek, it was a long-held desire, and she dedicated her subconscious power to its fulfilment with stubborn determination. They understood that the Universe often yields to relentless minds.
Kumar and Ronnie gazed at Mehek and Dua, sensing a divine aura emanating from them. It was as if a unique Universal energy enveloped them, shining brightly. This experience felt entirely magical! Unlike anything they had ever seen or felt before.
“I wish to speak my heart out.” Dua heard Mehek murmuring.
“What?” Dua asked Mehek.
“What? Am I speaking?” Mehek had found her voice, which came as a bolt from the blue for her.
Kumar and Ronnie danced cheerfully wagging their tails with happiness. Dua was filled with the Joys of Spring!
“Dua, does this house belong to you?” Mehek immediately posed the question.
Dua was taken aback by the unexpected question. “Yes”, she answered.
“Also, you own 40% of your father’s business and all of your mother’s jewellery. Right?” Mehek asked
“Ya, the will left by my father says so. Even I have acknowledged this recently, after my graduation.” Dua answered as she didn’t much care about the will.
“Where’s the will?” Mehek was eager to know.
“As per my knowledge, it's with Uncle Churma”.
Mehek and Kumar looked at each other and had an outburst with a laugh.
Dua and Ronnie got confused, “Why are you both laughing?”
“Who’s Uncle Churma?” Mehek inquired.
“He’s our financial cum legal advisor,” Dua answered.
“In our Universe, Churma is a type of a laddoo!” Mehek answered mischievously.
“What’s laddoo?” Dua asked curiously.
“Never mind. So, you believe that the will is with Uncle Sharma, oh…. I mean Uncle Churma?” Mehek laughed again.
“Stop laughing at Uncle Churma’s name Mehek. He is a very kind and sweet person.” Dua’s voice rose a bit high.
“As in, sweet as a Churma laddoo?” Mehek and Kumar giggled again.
“Okay enough, I am not dealing with you anymore.” Dua was a bit frustrated now.
“Oh, I am sorry Dua. The name is just getting me all the time. The thing is that I never knew about the will. So, I was curious to know.” Mehek calmed Dua.
“I know Dua. Your Chacha-Chachi are selfish people. They have always kept you aloof from your basic rights. They ill-treat you…” Dua was speaking, but Mehek cut her sentence.
“No Dua, they don’t ill-treat me,” Mehek explained taking her Chacha-Chachi’s side. “They are my only family. Whatever they give me, I accept with love."
“I know you only have Chacha and Chachi as your family. So, do I. But that doesn't give them the right to ill-treat you.” Kumar barked giving consent to Dua. “Mehek, listen up! Your parents left a treasure trove for you—this house, the family business, jewels, and more. You must return and ask Uncle Churma, wait, don’t laugh again! I guess he is Uncle Sharma. Demand him to show your father’s will and regain your rights. Why waste your days lamenting when the universe has bestowed upon you such riches? Your Chacha and Chachi are sneaking away with what's rightfully yours, Mehek. They're like thieves in the night, robbing you of your happiness!
It's high time you put your foot down and claim what's yours. Remember, the early bird catches the worm. So don't dilly-dally, or you might miss your chance to set things right. Grab the bull by the horns and show them who's the boss!” Dua enlightened confidence in Mehek to regain her rights.
“So, Dua, you believe that the Universe has bestowed fortune on us. I have been left out in the cold when it comes to tasting our family’s fortune, but it’s a different story altogether. Your Chacha and Chachi are happy to give you what's rightfully yours, but you're saying no. Why is that?” Mehek inquired.
“See Mehek, I refuse to be shackled by this inherited fortune for the rest of my days. I yearn to forge my path, to build my empire from the ground up. I want to spread my wings and soar, with no limits but the sky itself. I dream of independence, of creating something truly my own, not just coasting on what's already been laid out for me. I crave the thrill of starting from scratch, facing the trials and tribulations head-on, and emerging victoriously through my blood, sweat, and tears.
I refuse to settle for anything less than my own self-established business. And as for my home? I won't rest until I've built my majestic fortress. So let them keep their handed-down riches. I'll carve out my destiny, one brick at a time, until I stand tall in the kingdom of my own making.” Dua expressed her dreams and then sighed for a moment.
"Ah, my dear, you speak of ambitions that soar higher than the eagles in the sky. But let us just pause for a moment and take a gaze upon my humble tale! I was destined for a life adorned with the jewels of luxury and grandeur. Yet fate, that mischievous trickster, had other plans in mind. It led me down a path where opulence faded into the mist. I know you have higher dreams for yourself, but my dear, I ask you this: Must one always start from the barren soil to reap the fruits of their dreams? Imagine, if you have a piece of gold, raw and unrefined, waiting patiently for its transformation. It is but a blank canvas, devoid of curves and designs, waiting for the touch of a master craftsman. With your chisel of creativity and intellect, you breathe life into this inert metal, shaping it into a masterpiece, into a wonderful piece of jewellery. When this piece of jewellery is unveiled to the world, it shall be met with awe and admiration. What was once a mere piece of gold has now been transformed into a dazzling jewel! All of this would be possible only with your hard work, intelligence, and creativity. Now, imagine your family business as that piece of raw gold. With your confidence and consistency as your guiding star, you shall take your family's legacy to heights unseen. I mean, if I were to get such an opportunity, I would be more than grateful!” Mehek's words flowed like a gentle river, carrying with them the weight of her experiences and the wisdom of her years.
“Gold jewellery? Who wears gold jewellery? We wear jewellery made of coal, leaves, and sometimes marble! Coal jewellery is worn by the rich!" Dua explained.
“Your Universe is a complete mystery to me. Anyways, I don’t want to know how you wear this jewellery, but the point I wanted to tell you was that you are graced with something beautiful, don’t simply discard it. Embrace it and fashion something even greater from it. Dua, there’s a saying that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. So, in your case, life is offering you gold—no, I am sorry, coal! Then, craft coal jewellery from it! Because countless individuals across the Universe are not fortunate enough to obtain coal, nor lemons.” With a soft sigh, she leaned in, her eyes reflecting a lifetime of dreams tempered by reality.
As Dua sank into her thoughts, Mehek's words echoed through her mind like a symphony of truth, shattering her long-held beliefs in the most exquisite manner. “I crave to build my empire”, she murmured, “yet I can prove my mettle by elevating our family business to dizzying heights. With Chacha, Chachi, and Uncle Churma as my steadfast companions, and perhaps Mom and Dad watching from the heavens, I aim to make them proud. This venture will bear the mark of my struggle, creativity, and dreams, but it will also be buoyed by the blessings of my elders. Mehek, you've opened my eyes to this truth, and for that, I am forever grateful. Your wisdom has guided me to the shores of enlightenment I never knew existed."
“Dua, you were absolutely right when you said that we have crossed paths to support each other. You have ignited within me the courage to seize the life I truly deserve, the life my parents envisioned for me. It’s because of you that the world could be able to hear me talking. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!” Mehek exclaimed, her eyes brimming with gratitude.
“Mehek, we are the same person from different Universes. We live the same lives in different ways. Isn’t this amazing? I can feel the threads of connection weaving us together as if the Universe itself is urging us to be each other's guiding lights. Mehek, from now on, you don’t need to travel your way all along this Universe to meet me. Just close your eyes and summon me in your thoughts—I'll be there, by your side, ready to lend a helping hand. And if ever I need your wisdom, I'll simply shut my eyes and summon your spirit. In those moments, your pearls of wisdom will be my guiding stars." Dua marvelled, her eyes shining with wonder as well as warmth.
Mehek embraced Dua, sensing a profound connection as if they had been acquainted for a long time, experiencing the universal love between them. Kumar and Ronnie wagged their tails, embraced, and frolicked on their hind legs, playfully winking at each other. Mehek and Dua were filled with delight as they watched them.
“Gliding through rivers and soaring to the sky,
Each day, our dreams ascend, ambitions fly!
With love and faith as our companions,
Every summit conquered, every goal reached high!”
They all sang together.
“Dua, I have to go now. But I don’t know how?” Mehek was worried.
“How did you come here?” Dua asked.
“From the book 'Your Life in a Parallel Universe,' as soon as I opened it, Kumar and I were pulled by a beam of light. Before we could understand anything, we found ourselves here, in your universe!” Mehek answered.
“Yes, I too, have that book. Let’s try if you can go back through it. But why do you want to leave immediately? Wait for one day, meet my family, then you may go. Or I have an even better idea - live here forever!" Dua felt excited to announce this, and Ronnie too consented excitedly.
Mehek laughed and said, “This isn’t possible Dua. We belong to our Universes. Certainly, we both have a chance to meet our parallel selves, but we cannot go beyond the Universal laws and rules. I have to go, and go immediately as now I can’t wait enough to bring a diverse change in my and Kumar’s lives. I am going to bring a revolution and the courage that is shining now, I fear will fade if I delay any more. I don’t want this to happen. So please, allow me to go.”
“Yes, you are right Mehek”, Dua and Ronnie were disheartened as Mehek and Kumar were about to leave.
Dua took out the book from her bookshelf. As Dua opened the book, a picture of a handsome guy slipped down. Mehek asked Dua,” Who’s this guy?”
“He is my boyfriend, Eddie.” Dua blushed.
“Oh wow! You both make an attractive pair. Good luck to you and Eddie!” Mehek bestowed her good wishes on Dua.
“I wish you too, find your prince charming!” Dua grinned.
Mehek passed the picture to Dua, her gaze lingering on the book before her. Its pages were an anomaly, the words printed upside down, sentences commencing from the bottom right corner. Mehek wondered that maybe within this crookedness lay the true course she sought. Perhaps, this twisted world held the right path for her!
She took a deep sigh, held Kumar’s hands, and prayed:
"I humbly apologize for questioning your existence, dear Universe! You've granted all my wishes. Now, I seek one more favour. Please return me to my world and bestow upon me the courage of a lion to reclaim what's rightfully mine."
The same divine light shone from the book illuminating Mehek’s face. Mehek and Kumar faced the light together. The beam of light forcefully pulled both of them toward the book. Passing through the same beam of light, they reached their Universe, straight away in her room, where her book was placed.
Mehek and Kumar immediately came downstairs. They found Chacha, Chachi, Uncle Sharma, and Keshav Kaka over there.
“Mehek, where were you my bacchaa, we were so worried”, Chachi said, her eyes looking concerned, though Mehek wondered if they were genuine or just crocodile tears.
"Uncle Sharma, do you have my father's will?" Mehek asked, her voice carrying a blend of determination and respect.
Everyone was taken aback by Mehek's speaking voice. Keshav Kaka, in particular, was both pleased to hear it for the first time and stunned by her question to Uncle Sharma.
“Yes”, answered Uncle Sharma surprised by the question asked by Mehek.
“What all is in my name?”
“This house, Avni Bhabhi’s jewellery, and 40% of your father’s business.”
“Who owns the rest 60%”?
“It's me, I own it.”
“You?”
"Yes, indeed. Varad, your father placed his trust in me like no other. He treated me like a brother from another mother. He showered me with affection and handed over 60% of his business in my name, a gesture that left me flabbergasted. Little did I know that fate would snatch him away so swiftly. Yet, I resolved to uphold his legacy, to keep the flames of his business burning as brightly as he did. My son Ayush, fresh out of his MBA, has joined me on this journey. Together, we're like two peas in a pod, striving tirelessly to carry forward your father's vision!" Uncle Sharma exclaimed, his words dripping with emotion and determination.
"Yes, Uncle Sharma, you've truly earned what you possess. My father was a man of great foresight. He had faith in you and knew you'd honour his legacy. Oh, how I wish I could contribute something meaningful with my 40% share. But alas, I lack the skills and qualifications. And all of this, it's all because of you, Chacha, and Chachi. What did you gain by robbing me of my rightful share?" Mehek's words carried a blend of sorrow and accusation, echoing the sense of betrayal she felt.
“What are you saying Mehek? We have tried to give you everything that we could. Stop blaming us.” Vinay Chacha opposed.
"I speak the truth. Keshav Kaka has witnessed all the mistreatment you both have given me," Mehek asserted firmly.
“What are you saying Mehek, Chacha, and Chachi love you. Anyway, tell me how did this miracle happen? How did you regain your ability to speak?” Uncle Sharma asked.
"Uncle Sharma, it feels like the Universe has finally shown me mercy. Though it's taken its time, it's granted me the courage and strength to finally reveal the truth about my life. I need you to believe me, Uncle. I'll lay it all bare." With resolve in her voice, Mehek recounted the years of mistreatment she endured at the hands of Chacha and Chachi, starting from her childhood. As she poured out her heart, tears streamed down her face, washing away years of pent-up pain and anguish.
"I may have been your father's younger brother, but all he left me was a single crockery shop in my name. He never had faith in me. So why should we bother to look after you? You should consider yourself lucky that you and your doggy were been allowed to stay with us all these years," Chacha spat out, his words dripping with bitterness and resentment.
"You didn't allow Mehek to stay with you, Vinay. It's Mehek who has graciously allowed you to stay in her house, as she's the rightful owner. You never earned Varad's trust. That single crockery shop he left you? You drove it into the ground with losses. Now you're working at a courier company, not because of your skills, but because Varad had good relations with that company. Additionally, you use all the money from Mehek’s share for your benefits and luxuries. I had no idea of the mistreatment you subjected Mehek to. I knew you weren't the brightest bulb in the box, but I always hoped you were at least decent as a human being. Turns out, I was sorely mistaken. Shame on you, Vinay," Uncle Sharma's words were laced with righteous anger.
“Yes, right. We aren’t so-called good human beings like you all. What are you going to do now Mehek? Are you going to remove us from this house?” Reena Chachi yelled in anger at Mehek.
"No, Chacha, Chachi. Perhaps over the years, you've forgotten that I am your niece, but I haven't forgotten that you are my family. While you may continue to reside in this house, it's time for a change. From now on, you'll live here according to my rules. I'll be taking charge of this household," Mehek declared firmly, asserting her rightful authority.
"Mehek, it brings me such joy to hear your voice again," Keshav Kaka gently placed his warm hand on Mehek's head as tears of happiness welled up in his eyes.
“Your prayers have come true Keshav Kaka.” Mehek was more than grateful to him. Kumar too, gave a heartfelt hug to Keshav Kaka.
“Mehek, now that you're 18, it's time for you to step into the family business.” Uncle Sharma encouraged.
"I wish I could, but Uncle, I've only completed high school. I don't have the qualifications or experience to run a business," Mehek admitted, her spirits sinking.
"You can always learn, Mehek. You can start by working with me and Ayush while continuing your higher studies. Ayush will be there to guide you through every step of the way. And remember, inheritance isn't just about property; it's about the skills passed down through generations. You're Varad and Avni Bhabhi's daughter, and I have faith that you possess the same intellect and leadership qualities they had. With your kind heart and these abilities, I believe you'll become a successful businesswoman," Uncle Sharma encouraged Mehek, instilling a sense of motivation within her.
With unwavering conviction, Mehek pledged to stand by Uncle Sharma's convictions. She assured him that she would start working for the business the very next day and simultaneously enrol for her Bachelor's degree.
That night, she kissed her parent’s photo, and determined to herself,
“The flowers are playing symphonies
To welcome the new beginnings!
I embrace the magic, the Universe,
I embrace these new mornings!”
The following day, she walked into the company and headed straight for Uncle Sharma's cabin. Inside, she met a strikingly handsome man who greeted her with a warm, "Good morning, Mehek! Dad mentioned you’d be coming.”
“Hey I know you, you are Eddie. Good Morning Eddie! But how come you are here?” Mehek was surprised.
"Mehek, seems like you've mixed me up with someone else. I'm not Eddie; I'm Ayush Sharma, Mr. Devendra Sharma's son." Ayush clarified, with a charming smile. "But hey, if you're into the name Eddie, I won't mind being called that by you."
Mehek blushed, feeling the subtle nudges from the universe. With a heart full of openness, she embraced the prospect of new beginnings in her life!
