Land line phones/ telephones.
Imagine a phone that couldn’t text , send emails, take pictures, browse, play, show time, play music but just hear someone’s voice over. Well they aren’t old but classic. The actual telephones that outsmarted the snail mails had an awe factor for a long time. It connected people instantly than getting answer to a question over a week. Days shrunken to minutes. The telephones by itself evolved from old to modern ones up to a chord less. But a normal middle class telephone had either a circular dial or square buttons that had numbers 1 through 9 and 0 along with # and *.
It was smooth plastic and had a receiver that sat on two springy thingy that was pushed in while the receiver was placed on it finishing the call. Each phone had its own number along with its area code. The receiver always had a continuous ring tone before dialing the numbers , while pressing the numbers had beeps for each and then a rhythmic ring tone denoting the call getting connected or a long pauses denoting the li e is engaged. The telephone rings when someone calls and it rings in rhythm which was a default the phone and couldn’t be changed except for the volume levels. The receiver is connected to the rest of the phone by a coiled wire which undergoes the most torture while someone is talking. The physical phone in the middle class home is covered by a towel like it’s adds to the moral value. It had people physically restricted to some place while talking rather than get up and go out. And the guessing game was fun if someone hadn’t introduced themselves. lol . Good old days.
