I have a dream of equality. I believe that equality means
giving equal rights to everyone no matter what gender, caste,
religion or colour they are. Also, there should be no
discrimination for the above issues. I also believe a lot in this
quote said by Martin Luther King it is- ‘Treating different the
same can generate as much inequality as treating same
things differently’. But as it is said ‘Easier said than done’, we
people do not really follow equality. The biggest sign of
inequality that we see around us is gender discrimination,
where men and women are treated differently. This gender
discrimination can affect both men and women. For women,
it may be in the form of male-consented domination from
the society. The ideology of the society that women are not
able enough to work in the outside world or take their own
decisions as capably as men is also a sign of gender
discrimination. For males it can be like- when a little boy
cries he is said that he is not a girl that he would cry or when
a little boy is scared, he is compared to a girl and said that
males are meant to be dominant and strong. Another kind of discrimination is
discrimination on the basis of castes. While many of us would
think that there should be equality no matter what caste the
person is from, sadly the matter is not as we think it is.
Starting from the past till date, people are discriminated on
the basis of their castes. I have a dream that one day it will
stop and people from every single caste, can live together in peace. There is another such
thing like castes due to which people are discriminated, and
that is religion. Religious discrimination is such a dangerous
thing that it can cause war between two countries. It can also
cause the death of many martyrs for their belief that their
religion is the best. As different people follow different
religions, their religious believes are also different and I think
this is the place where the dispute mainly occurs. Religion is
also a thing that is very closely related to a person’s
sentiments and when a person’s sentiments are hurt , taking
religion as the weapon, people rise up into a violent protest
just to prove that their religion is the best. So, as a whole
religious discrimination can be fatal. Other than these there is discrimination due to the peoples’ skin colour as well, and I sadly admit that colour
discrimination is at such a level today that people tend to
make relations based on it. Now if that is not enough, people
are respected differently due to their colour and in some
cases a person’s job is at stake just because of their skin
colour and from my point of view, I believe that treating
people according to their skin colour is really cruel and it also
puts a very big question mark on our values. It also defines
how inhuman we are to differentiate people just for their
skin colour. Thus, the above points go on to prove my point
that we people have a lot of inequality in us. Still, I believe
that nothing is impossible to achieve and I also have a very strong
belief that maybe not in one single day but if we keep trying
then one day there will certainly be equality among all human beings. I
have a dream that one day people will not be judged
according to the above factors, instead they will be judged
according to their knowledge, their skill, their behaviour,
their character and their moral values of honesty, hard work,
discipline and kindness, and for their respect towards their elders and for the affection and
love they have for those around them. I also strongly believe that the
later half which includes moral values is really lacked by the
people who do not follow the path of equality and
discriminate people on the above factors. I have a promise to
myself that I will never discriminate people whatever may
the factor be for it and I will always follow the path of
equality just as I mentioned in the above sentences. I have a
dream that one day I will be able to make a very big change
and make every single person believe in equality.
