Happy Pride Month

By Saptarshi Chakraborty

To be honest, the world would've been a lot better if we, humans would've been a little more compassionate, a little more understanding, a little more patient and a little more open to every other human being that we talk to or be with. Well, I understand that it is a basic human trait to get intimidated, feel disgusted or even dislike the people who are really different than us in some way or the other. But hey, what if we just be more patient and really try to understand the situation from the perspective of the person or the community concerned?

IT'S REALLY NOT THAT HARD to accept people the way they are. IT'S REALLY NOT THAT HARD to NOT make people feel ashamed or disgusted about the things they don't have in hand, the things that they can't change. It's the pride month so you know what I'm talking about. Most of us have came across the saying that "every human being is unique" or "everyone is special". When the truth of this saying calls for justification why do most of us fail? We can be unique and special in every way possible. The most interesting fact is that homosexuality, a concept that us, Indians often call to be a "Western concept" has, in fact been there in India since the Vedic ages or before. This is what everyone needs to know that homosexuality is as natural as heterosexuality. It is neither a mental illness nor a filthy thought or anything of that sort. It's basic genetics. A person's sexual orientation and desires are encoded in their very genes. It is a trait and just like any other traits it is impossible to change a person's liking towards a certain gender or genders. It is high time that we start talking about such matters in a logical sense and clear out all the prejudices and preconceived notions from our minds. People should be ready to accept others' sexual preferences with an open heart.

There is an entire community out there struggling to acquire the basic human rights of getting married lawfully, receiving equal pay cheques and equal treatment as their heterosexual counterparts. All it takes is a little bit of awareness, an open mind and an open heart to accept the LGBTQ+ community by acknowledging their differences and offering them the humane behaviour that we all deserve. And if the discontinuance of the biological progeny is the matter of concern then remember! There are millions of kids out there in the orphanages or on the streets that have been abandoned and neglected by their biological parents. These kids are in desperate need of a family, loving parents, guides and a proper home. Moreover natural progeny could be borne these days by referring to Infertility Clinics. The options are plenty.

The world would be a lot easier to survive if we start  looking at human beings as human beings and not aliens. Just a little more love is what you, me, they deserve.

Happy Pride Month to anyone and everyone that knows how to love.
