A Bug’s Death

Noted Nest

By Keertana Pisharody

I targeted a dumb bug again

To torment with awful thoughts.

"Do you feel and love with all your heart,

Or envy regally pretty mouths?”

My train of thoughts rushed in too fast;

And left the stupid bug blown away.

It toppled and turned over, which gave

Another diversion for my mind to stray.

It tickled the air with its light whiskers

To attempt to strike an upright stance.

"Do bugs too get self-conscious,

When ridiculed with every glance?”

"Give up, idiot!", is all I thought,

As the bug caressed the motionless wind.

It chose exhaustion over its helpless plight

As I ruthlessly giggled and grinned.

"Why must you walk the longer route?

Why fight for a bug’s pointless life?

When your carcass falls, I’ll shrug—

Not mourn your fleeting strife”

The road came to an end anyway;

The fragile 'thing' stopped troubling the land.

Music to the pointless dance came to a halt,

As death lovingly took the bug's hand.

I leaned in to hear the last words

Of the insect before its demise.

The insect put all its might

To condemn my thoughts so wise.

"Insignificant I am to the eyes of the blind,

Laughable to humour so loose;

For I chose to die with a brave fight

Without a gun, a jump of solace or a noose.”
